Trip Dates: 7th – 9th April 2019.
Situated about an hour’s drive from Zurich, up into the mountains, Andermatt is a small skiing town in the Swiss Alps. I found my way to Andermatt, not for the slopes, but for the spa! The Chedi Andermatt has been listed on various executive lists as one of the world’s best spa hotels, including edits by Conde Nast Traveller and The Independent. I came across The Chedi Andermatt as I wanted somewhere special to take my Mum for her 60th Birthday where we could relax and feel pampered. It certainly didn’t disappoint, and Andermatt itself was the perfect setting for a weekend escape. From quaint views of the famous Glasier express railway to picture-perfect, snow-capped mountain scenery and pretty, traditional swiss chalets where you can venture to find traditional Swiss fair.
Walking into The Chedi itself was like walking onto a film set. It’s stunningly beautiful from every angle. It is most certainly one of the best all-round hotels I’ve ever stayed in for luxury, food, service, comfort, etc. The room featured a glass, remote-controlled fireplace through which you could see through to the snowy slopes outside. Everything was automated and completely seamless. (One of the press cuttings about the place describes it as ‘Bond-like’, which I think is wholly accurate, and pretty much sums up what it’s like to stay at The Chedi Andermatt).
We passed our weekend lounging on day beds whilst reading, sipping tea or just staring in awe out at the stunning mountain scenery. This was peppered with intermittent dips in the heated outdoor pool, surrounded by snow, or a trip downstairs to enjoy the various saunas, steam rooms and plunge pools. All before venturing into the quaint little town of Andermatt in search of fondue. What a life!
